Ruth Maddren

First Nations Producer

Ruth is a proud Noongar woman, descending from the Kaneang nation and living in Pibbulmun Country, Kwoorabup/Denmark. Mother to eight children, Ruth has been a craft activist and artist for over 20 years, teaching first herself, and then guiding others to sew creatively, making, revamping and upcycling clothing and making art works. She has produced works for community projects, exhibitions and performances for the last 15 years on Pibbulmun and Minang Noongar Boodja. Her journey into deepening her connection to her culture is a personal recognition of her life’s work in caring for boodja while actively developing her presence in her local community as a Noongar representative, as well as a long-awaited degree in Indigenous Knowledge, History and Culture at UWA, Kinjarling/Albany. Ruth is proud to be Distributed 15’s First Nations Producer.
