Meet our team

Annette Carmichael

An award-winning dance artist and creative producer, Annette specialises in large scale community arts productions that unite a diverse mix of people through their shared experience of dance, sound, movement and performance. She has worked with a diverse array of arts organisations, including West Australian Ballet, STRUT Dance Inc., Perth Festival, Ausdance WA and Denmark Arts in her hometown on Western Australia’s south coast.


James Gentle

Sound Designer James Gentle has collaborated with Annette on projects including The Beauty Index, A Light Shade of Red, The Snake Run, My War?, Air and Artefact and The Index. His musical scores are epic in scope and feature original sound that explores mathematics, polyrhythmic structures and the sound world around us.

Nic Duncan

Award winning photographer Nic Duncan’s ongoing artistic collaboration with Annette culminated in a joint exhibition of The Index, their multi-media art installation, at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries. Nic was stills photographer for the movie Breath and is a multi-award winning portrait photographer. She works with performers to create exquisite photographic records of our projects, and shared her talents with a select group of young people for A Light Shade of Red.

Sandi Woo

Brisbane-based independent producer, dance artist, community development facilitator and educator Sandi Woo has worked with Annette on projects including The Creation of Now and The Beauty Index. She was awarded the WA Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Regional and/or Community Dance for her project YouTubeMeDance in 2013. Her parent-child dance project Because of You…, first produced in Broome in 2013.  

Kevin Draper

Sculptor Kevin Draper works primarily with forged steel, using minimal materials to create a sense of volume and space. His work is heavily influenced by the natural environment and has been exhibited in Australia and internationally, including Australian Perspecta and Basel, Switzerland, A regular exhibitor at Sculpture by the Sea Bondi and Sculpture by the Sea Cottesloe, Kevin's distinctive black and white creations are a recurring motif in Annette’s productions. He was visual designer for The Beauty Index and A Light Shade of Red.

Robert Castiglione

Filmmaker Robert Castiglione has had a long career working across different genres in capacities including writing/directing, cinematography, sound and editing. His documentary Three Dragon Tenors and short film My Nan and the Yandi were both broadcast by the ABC. His commercial work includes music videos for successful indi bands Mama Kin and San Cisco. Robert has created documentaries of Annette’s work and mentored young artists for A Light Shade of Red’s media installation.

Symantha Parr

Symantha Parr has had a lifelong love affair with dance: performing, teaching and creating.
She performed in The Creation of Now and has choreographed her own projects for Brave New Works, Denmark, and the Albany Fringe Festival. Symantha was Stage Manager for My War? and costume designer for The Beauty Index and A Light Shade of Red.

Indra Geidans

Award winning painter Indra Geidans has had her work exhibited around Australia and internationally, from China to Switzerland. Her work is held in collections including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Federal Law Courts of Australia and numerous universities and local governments. She was visual designer for The Beauty Index and A Light Shade of Red.

Jennie Newman

Jennie Newman is a visual artist who also has a love of community project work. She has worked in local government, community arts, education and as a Contractor focussing on developing and coordinating community projects, while maintaining her own art practice.

Alison Bennett Taylor

Writer, editor and producer Alison Bennett Taylor is Relationships Manager for Annette Carmichael Projects: assisting with media, marketing and communications. She has previously worked as a journalist for the West Australian, Albany Advertiser and Denmark Bulletin, and had her work published in national magazines, as well as producing live radio for ABC Great Southern.
